Something looks wrong? Tell us what looks wrong

Turns one logo, as an image or an SVG, into a favicon set: favicon.ico, PNG icons, an Apple touch icon, the web app manifest icons, the manifest file and the HTML to paste into your page head. For anyone launching a site or an installable web app.

How to use it

Start from a square logo that is at least 512 px on each side, or an SVG. The icons are made in your browser and the image is never uploaded.

  1. Choose a PNG, JPEG, WebP or SVG file, or drop it into the box.
  2. Optionally enter the name of your site or app for the manifest.
  3. Check each icon in the preview and read the findings. Replace the image if it is too small or not square.
  4. Download the ZIP, put the files in the root of your site and paste the HTML into your page head.

How Reavlo tests this

The tool plans every icon from the size of your image and the sizes in Reavlo's media specs data, then draws them in your browser. Nothing about the image is sent anywhere.

  1. Sizes are the ones documented by Google Search (favicon), Apple (touch icon) and web.dev (manifest icons of 192 and 512 px), each with the date it was checked. The 16 and 32 px tab sizes are not listed because no official source states them; browsers scale the ICO and PNG down.
  2. Shape. Icons are square. If your image is not, the centre is kept, the rest is cropped and the result says so. Nothing is stretched.
  3. Too small. If the image has fewer pixels than an icon needs, it is enlarged and the result is flagged.
  4. ICO is built in your browser from the favicon PNG, stored as a PNG image inside the ICO container, which every current browser reads.
  5. SVG is drawn to a bitmap through an image element, which never runs scripts or loads other files, then treated like any other picture.
  6. Names follow web convention (favicon.ico, apple-touch-icon.png, icon-192x192.png) so the generated HTML and manifest match the files.

Limits. The tool does not make maskable icons, Windows tiles or Safari pinned-tab icons, and it does not check how the icon looks at 16 px. Browsers and platforms may change what they accept.

Questions

Is my image uploaded?

No. The image is read, resized and packed in your browser, and nothing from it is sent to a server or stored. If Google Analytics is enabled on this site, it only records that the tool ran, never the image or its name.

Where do I put the files?

In the root of your site, so that /favicon.ico, /apple-touch-icon.png and /site.webmanifest resolve. The pasted HTML uses those root paths.

Which image should I start from?

A square logo, at least 512 px on each side, or an SVG. Making a small image larger always looks softer than making a large one smaller.

Why does the ICO hold only one size?

The ICO uses the favicon size documented by Google Search. Sizes without an official source are left out rather than guessed.

Can I use a transparent logo?

Yes. Icons keep transparency. Some platforms show a transparent Apple touch icon on a black background, so check it on a device.
