Builds the App Store keyword field from your keywords: separated by commas without spaces, with repeats and words already in your app name left out, within the 100-byte limit. For app makers doing store optimization.
How to use it
Paste your keywords with your app name and subtitle. The field updates as you type, and nothing leaves your browser.
- Paste your keywords, separated by commas, spaces or new lines, or load the example.
- Enter your app name and, if you have one, your subtitle.
- Read the field and its size in bytes, then read the list of what was removed and why.
- Copy the field and paste it into App Store Connect.
How Reavlo tests this
The steps are plain arithmetic, run in your browser. Where a rule comes from Apple, it says so and links to the page it was read from on the date shown.
- The text is split into single words at commas (English or Chinese), spaces and new lines, and compared without regard to case.
- Words of two characters or fewer are removed. App Store Connect describes keywords as "each greater than two characters".
- Words that are in the app name are removed. App Store Connect says the app is searchable by its name, so the name shouldn't be duplicated in the keyword list.
- Words that are in the subtitle are removed. This is Reavlo's check; the page does not say it.
- A word repeated in the list is kept once, the first time it appears.
- Words are added in order, joined by commas, until the next word would pass 100 bytes. A byte is counted as the text is encoded in UTF-8, so letters outside English can take two to four bytes each. The words that do not fit are listed as having no room.
Limits. The tool cannot tell the name of another app or company from other words, and App Store Connect does not allow those, so check for them yourself. It treats each word on its own and does not keep phrases together. The store may change its rules.
Questions
Is the limit 100 characters or 100 bytes?
App Store Connect says 100 bytes. For English letters the two are the same, but a letter outside English can take more than one byte, so the tool counts bytes.
Why are words from my app name removed?
App Store Connect says the app is searchable by its name, so repeating the name's words in the keyword list spends bytes for nothing.
Why are spaces removed?
Each space costs a byte and a comma already separates the words, so the field uses the bytes for keywords instead.
Is my text uploaded?
No. The field is built in your browser tab. A share link keeps your text in the part of the address after the #, which is never sent to a server.
